![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Ten springs of natural mineral water are classified as hydrocarbonic, sodium chloride, ferrous, cold, hypotonic, with a relatively high content of carbon dioxide. The total mineralization of the individual springs ranges from 1,600 mg/liter (the Klara spring) to 9,400 mg/liter (the Hercules spring), and from 2,200 to 3,800 mg/liter of carbonic dioxide. Scientifically proven healing and preventive spa programsare offered during 14 – 28 day stays. For all guests there is 24-hour medical service included in the price of the stay. All medical products are guaranteed, satisfying the legal norm criteria of the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic in such issues as staff competence, therapeutic processes and material and technical equipment. All inclusive stays consist of consultations with experienced physician, medical care during spa stay and spa treatments according to prescription of a spa physician. MINERAL WATER DRINKING CUREthis rank among the main healing procedures. HEAT THERAPYin applying heat treatments, natural curative springs as well as artificial heat sources are used. Thermo-therapeutic healing methods used at the spa involve: paraffin, peat, wraps infrared radiation, sauna, and electromagnetic waves. HYDROTHERAPYin addition to Kneipp methods, all other applications of modern hydrotherapy also have their place at the spa. The main ones are mineral and bubbling baths. For the mineral baths, water is drawn from the Klara and Alexander springs. Other applications of waters are: whirlpools, baths with additives, Finnish sauna, Turkish steam baths, Scottish showers, and alternating walking baths. CARBONIC THERAPIESsince spring waters used for mineral baths are rich in carbonic oxide, the mineral baths rank among these therapies. INHALATIONS & THERAPEUTIC GAS INJECTIONSREHABILITATION THERAPY is given at two gyms in the Treatment Facility. The Ozon Hotel has a relaxation-rehabilitation center. The swimming pool at the Treatment Facility is used for rehabilitation, as is the outdoor pool at the edge of the forest. MASSAGEis an integral part of rehabilitation: classical massage, reflex massage, and under-water massage. ELECTRO-THERAPY and magnetic therapyThese methods encompass the use of ultra-sound, a solarium, infrared lamps, diathermy (sub-cutaneous heat treatments), a diatron, magnetic therapy, galvanic therapy (using electricity produced by chemical reaction) limb baths, fyaction and interferential streams. INHALATION THERAPYthree kinds of inhalation are employed: upper respiratory tract inhalation, lower respiratory tract inhalation, and group inhalation. PHOTOTHERAPY (treatment employing light rays)this supplementary therapy involves warming up parts of the body using solariums. DIET THERAPYdiet is an integral part of any complex therapy, its purpose is to eliminate the negative influence of poor dietary habits. CLIMATE THERAPYthis refers mainly to the use of desig-nated trails, such as the Oxygen Trailö, under the supervision of health professionals, and to various sports activities at the Spa which the patient himself decides to take advantage of. AccommodationHotel Astoria (3 stars) is a dominant historic building at the spa, built in 1898 in the Classic style. It provides accommodation in a pleasant, relaxing atmosphere, with 20 single rooms, 31 doubles and 3 suites. The Hotel Astoria has at its disposal the following facilities: a concert hall seating 80, a small reception room for 12 people, a safe, and a cafe with a terrace. Besides these facilities, the Hotel Astoria offers a rich program of cultural events. It has become a tradition for the opening concert of the International Summer of Music to be held here each year. Hotel Ozon (3 stars) was built in 1976. It has more beds than any other residential facility in the spa. Its scale of services should satisfy the most discerning guests. Eight single rooms, 162 doubles and 8 suites are at the guests` disposal. Services offered in the hotel are: a cafe, a travel agency, a fitness center, a sauna, a solarium, massages, a hairdresser’s, a beauty parlor, a pedicurist, a pharmacy, an art gallery, with a permanent exhibition of the work of the noted artist Vojtech Löffler, conference rooms with a capacity of 120 and 50 persons, reception rooms, a guarded parking place near the hotel, and a safe. The first written report about the mineral sources of the Bardejov spa is dated 1247 in the donor deed of the King Bela IV. First written report about the health resort comes from 1505. The spa developed mostly in the 19th century as it was the summer resort of the Austro-Hungarian, Polish and Russian aristocracy. Among the most important personalities of that time who visited the spa were the Austrian empress Elisabeth-Sissi, the Russian tsar Alexander I., Marie-Louise – Napoleons wife. ClimateLowlands, sedative, temperate winters, summers without hot days. The clean air bears the scent of resin from the hundred-year-old coniferous forest. A mild inland climate prevails. LocationIt lies 5 kilometers from the town Bardejov, inscribed on the UNESCO Heritage List, in the valley of the Bardejov Brook, also known as „Kvasny“ (sour) Brook. Nearby is Mount Magura (902 meters), which protects the entire spa valley from wind and harsh changes in weather. The center of the spa (the Astoria hotel) is 325 m. above sea level. The orchards and parks that surround the spa have an area of 1,000 hectares. A further 5,000 hectares of surrounding coniferous and mixed deciduous forest provide the area the intimacy of isolation from the impact of civilization, and give the spa valley its particular character.
